It's the Weekend, well the end of it!

This weekend I made it a point to work on finishing a project I started two weeks ago.
This should've been a day project.
But with me, nothing goes as planned.

The second week of  Christmas vacation I was madly going through and dejunking my house.
It was Monday, December 26th.
I was a madwoman I tell you.
If you sat long enough, you may have gone into the rescued treasures box.
I went into my room to take a quick break and of course, check facebook.
I saw a status update from Embellish and Restore announcing the winner of $200 worth of
Annie Sloan chalkpaint.
So I clicked on over to their blog.
And oh the thrill to see that I was the winner!!
I can not tell you how excited I was.
I may or may not have been jumping around the room.
You see, I have projects waiting to be done but don't have the monetary resources to start them.

Anywho, the next day I went to meet with Monica at Embellish and Restore to pick up my treasure.
I was able to have fun dreaming of ideas.
I decided to forgo one can of paint and trade in for 4 sample sizes to vary the colors.
I have to say there is fear in trying something new.

My first project:
A cupboard door turned chalkboard.

Here are the pics:

The board is from the as is section at IKEA. Cleaned with Simple Green.
Color:  Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, Antibes Green
After paint dries:  clear wax, distress, then clear wax, dark wax, and finish off with clear wax.
One thing I would have done differently was I would have sanded the door a bit.
Some of the paint rubbed off completely in a few places.  But I think it adds character. :)
Plus, I'm still learning.

I forgot to take a pic of the chalkboard paint.
I used three coats.

Almost Finished project.
Embellished with fabric rosettes made from fabric found at rescued treasures.
Still need to get a chalkholder.
I have to say I am pretty proud of myself.
I took baby steps to get started and I conquered my fear of trying something new.

Now, I chose to green because it was one of the samples I got.
My house is not in greens.
If your house is and you would love this handmade chalkboard,
please let me know!

I was on a roll today so I started a project for our bedroom.
It involves ASCP in Paris Grey and Arles (yellow).
The pieces are drying right now.
So, I'll probably finish for next weekend wrap-up.

Please, hop on over to Embellish and Restore to check out what they are doing.
It's awesome!
They're also on facebook.

What fun projects are you working?

Finding the blessings,
Denise
